When Displacement Sparks Unity
We went to one of our spots yesterday to do some outreach. As you all know—or may not know—our unsheltered population is often being asked to relocate. And that’s putting it kindly. This creates difficult situations, of course, and lots of challenges. Imagine having to move your home every day because you’re not allowed to stay in any particular place.
Then couple that with the fact that it is now very cold out, and soon, wet weather will be coming.
Something I’m finding interesting about this, though, is that one of the communities I’ve been reaching out to regularly is responding like men and women who have been shipwrecked and found themselves on an island together. In their shared struggle to survive, they seem to be bonding and creating a stronger sense of community. They understand their need for each other.
One of the dangers of displacing people is that it disconnects them from community. It disconnects them from relationships. The greater the disconnection, the deeper the wounding, and reconciliation becomes more difficult.
That’s why, when I sensed this camaraderie that this community appears to be forming, I was reminded once again that God is true to His word:
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”
We at Convicted4Christ continue to pray and hope to reconcile people with their purpose in Christ Jesus.
